NetLync Revolutionises Phone Number Verification for Android with Entitlements
[Dublin, Ireland. Feb 27, 2025] – NetLync, through its collaboration with Google Cloud, has revolutionised Android phone number verification (PNV) by leveraging Entitlement APIs. This initiative enhances the user experience and strengthens security by authenticating a device’s SIM card directly with the carrier network, offering a more seamless, secure, and fraud-resistant alternative to traditional SMS-based authentication.
Traditionally, phone number verification relies on SMS OTPs, which can create friction due to slow delivery times, interception risks, and unreliable network conditions. These challenges often lead to frustration, abandoned sign-ups, and security vulnerabilities. Additionally, SMS channels are increasingly exploited by bad actors engaging in artificial traffic inflation, a fraud scheme that is estimated to cost the telecom industry nearly $40 billion annually.
A Smarter, Faster, More Secure Alternative
Carriers can now instantly verify an Android user’s phone number in real-time without the need for OTPs through NetLync’s Entitlements-as-a-Service® (EaaS®). Whenever an application attempts to access their phone number, users will see a clear consent dialog. They can choose to proceed with verification and share their phone number or decline the request. This innovation reduces friction, improves conversion rates, and enhances security—benefiting both users and carriers. Currently, this service is available at no additional cost to EaaS® customers, as it is included in the Baseline offering.Key Benefits of Entitlement-Based Phone Number Verification
- Enhanced Security: Directly verifying phone number ownership with the mobile operator significantly reduces the risk of identity fraud.
- Seamless User Experience: No more waiting for SMS codes—verification is instant, leading to faster sign-ups and fewer drop-offs.
- Improved Accessibility: Works over both Wi-Fi and cellular networks, ensuring a smooth experience even in areas with poor network coverage.
- Reduced Fraud: By eliminating SMS toll fraud and other manipulative traffic schemes, this approach protects both users and the industry from costly abuse.
Phone number verification remains a growing problem for carriers, app developers, and device OEMs — ultimately affecting consumers worldwide,
said Emir Aboulhosn, CEO, and Co-Founder.
We applaud Google for introducing an innovative approach that leverages the rising demand for entitlements. PNV is yet another example of why carriers are rapidly embracing entitlements, not only for existing use cases but also to enhance user experience and security across both Android and iOS.
NetLync’s EaaS® is a great example of how carriers can rapidly launch powerful new use cases without additional investment. With 2degrees New Zealand, the feature was live within just one week of project initiation.
